A Ragdoll's coat was selected by people. It is now longer than she can keep up with on her own.

Why the teeth are 21mm
Most combs on the shelf are 38mm. They are built for coats that stay dense all the way down. TICA describes a Ragdoll's as semi-long and silky, with minimal undercoat. On her, that extra length runs out of coat and lands on skin.
At 21mm the teeth pass the top layer, reach the base, and stop.
No study says 21mm is correct for a Ragdoll. The sources give us the coat. Choosing 21mm from that is our call, not a published finding.

Here is the fact that decided everything about this product. A cat who is hurt once during grooming remembers it. She leaves the room the next time you pick anything up, and after that you are not grooming her at all. So if we let you believe this comb can handle a hard mat, you will go at one with it, and she is the one who pays for that.

The reasons not to buy, in full
If she fights being handled at all, a comb is the wrong first purchase. That is not a grooming problem and we cannot help with it. VCA Animal Hospitals is clear that when a fearful cat is not making progress, the next step is your vet or a behaviour specialist. See them first. We will still be here.
If she is over about ten and the matting is on her back half, check with your vet before you buy anything from us. VCA reports that osteoarthritis affects more than 90% of cats aged ten and over, and a cat who cannot twist without pain stops caring for her coat back there. No comb fixes that. You should not need to buy a book to be told this.
The same goes for a sudden change at any age. That is usually pain of some kind, and a comb is not the answer to it.
A small number of mats have a cause underneath them, and no comb reaches those. Pain, weight, skin disease, diet. If matting turns up suddenly, or keeps coming back in the same place, that is the signal. Why we do not ask for the comb back. A return label, a box, a trip to the post office, and a fortnight of waiting. None of that gets you anything. If it did not work for her, the honest thing is to give your money back and let you get on with your week.

Why a mat forms, and why most are preventable
A mat is not neglect. It is shed hair that never left. Hair sheds constantly. In a short coat it falls away. In a semi-long coat it gets caught by the living hair around it and stays, and every time she moves that small bundle turns a little tighter against itself.
That is why mats seem to appear overnight. They do not. What happens overnight is that one finally gets big enough for your fingers to find.
And there is a line. A tangle comes apart. A mat that has compacted flat against the skin does not, and VCA Animal Hospitals is direct about what happens next: do not cut out matted fur, because you risk cutting the skin.
So the ordinary kind needs two things: loose hair, and a place that rubs. Take the loose hair out of those places before it twists and it does not start.

If you already know all of that and you own a comb that reaches her skin without pressing into it, you do not need us. We would rather say that than pretend otherwise.

How do I know I will get a refund if I ask?
Email hello@brightpawsclub.net and say it did not work. We do not ask for the comb back and there is no form. We do ask for the filled-in tracker if you have it, because right now that is the only real information we can get about what went wrong, but the refund is the same whether you send it or not.

You should not trust it on our word alone, which is why we put that in writing on this page rather than hiding it. Yes, usually within a day. There is one person answering and no ticket system to get lost in. Time zones mean the reply may land overnight for you.
What if I do not keep it up?
Then you will have done it more than you would have otherwise, which is not nothing. The routine is built at ten seconds for the finger check and sixty for the comb, on purpose, because a short habit you keep beats a long session you skip. The tracker runs fourteen days rather than a year for the same reason.
Should I just use a groomer instead?
They do different jobs. A groomer deals with what has already formed, and does it far better than you or we could. This is about the part before that, on the days in between, when there is nothing there yet. Plenty of people will end up doing both. What we would rather avoid is you finding out the coat needed help on the day it has to come off.
My cat is not a Ragdoll.
It still works on any semi-long silky coat. We wrote everything for Ragdolls because that is the coat we know best, and being specific is more useful to you than being general.
She already has a mat. Will this get it out?
Depends which kind. If it still moves and you can get something between it and her skin, yes, working from the outer edge inward in short strokes. But if it is compacted and sitting flat against the skin, no, and neither will any other comb. That one goes to a groomer.
My cat hates being brushed. Is this going to be a fight?
If she genuinely fights being handled, see the chart at the top. This is not the right first purchase. Some cats take to it quickly. Some take longer. We are not going to promise you otherwise.
